BREAST AUGMENTATION
The most well-known and popular form of cosmetic surgery today, breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to increase the breast size of a person. The surgery can be performed with general anesthesia or full sedation. Reasons for considering a breast augmentation procedure include:
- Enhancing breast size
- To restore lost breast size from weight loss
- To improve symmetry of body/breasts
- To improve the shape and form of sagging breasts (when combined with a breast lift)
- For reconstruction after breast removal due to cancer or other trauma
Breast implants come in a wide variety of sizes, shapes, and textures. Implants can be filled with saline or silicone. Sizes are based on width and projection, which is how far the implant extends the breast off the chest wall. The shell of the implant can be either smooth or textured. Implants can also be round or anatomic (teardrop) shaped. Breasts must be fully developed for implants; saline implants are approved for women over the age of 18, while silicone implants are best for women over 22 years old.
Women often seek breast implants to improve their confidence or self-image. If you are fully developed and are seeking improvement in the appearance of your breasts, but not necessarily perfection, this procedure may be right for you.
